What We Do

Our Services
Our Training, Technical Assistance, and Consultation Services are grounded in years of hands-on project planning and implementation; they are uniquely based on real world experience, not just theory.
IPS offers a range of training and technical service options that can be customized to provide maximum benefit for your community and project.
  • IPS Environmental Prevention Academy – Formal classroom training, usually a week-long where concepts are applied to your project or issue.  Participants will learn how to utilize the IPS METHOD including the implementation model and numerous tools, understand the value of a systems approach, and leave able to begin planning and implementing their environmental prevention project.
  • Shorter visits to your location can be training, technical assistance or a combination of both depending on need; training can be in the form of a one hour or longer workshop while technical assistance is typically a discussion with 1 to 100 people.
  • IPS Environmental Prevention Academy in San Diego– IPS conducts week-long academies on the IPS METHOD in San Diego on a regular basis.  In addition to our presenters, we typically bring in one or more nationally recognized speakers to cover the latest developments in the field.  Check the “Next Academy” page on this website for details.
  • Remote technical assistance is also available on an-on-going basis by telephone or email. IPS regularly provides effective remote TA for activities such as strategic and tactical planning,  data analysis, developing or reviewing draft media pieces.
IPS has found that many projects benefit most from a combination of intensive on-site training and technical assistance, where materials and discussions can be tailored to the specific community, combined with a high level of regular contact via remote TA. This is generally referred to as “Integrated Training and TA.” IPS has successfully applied this approach on many projects including the SPF-SIG implementation in the state of Montana.
The type of training and/or TA that is best for your project depends on factors such as the “readiness” of your project staff and community to engage in policy-focused prevention work, the experience level of your project staff, budget considerations, project infrastructure and other considerations.
IPS staff welcomes the opportunity to work with you to develop a customized training and / or technical assistance plan that will meet the needs of your community and move your project forward.
In addition to directly supporting communities implementing population-wide EP projects, IPS also works with Funders, Program Managers or others in designing and developing program specifications and other system components as needed to support the unique characteristics of population-wide EP projects.
