Operation Safe Crossing
Operation Safe Crossing is a combined effort of numerous law enforcement agencies to prevent youths under age 18 from entering Mexico without parental consent and to reduce DUIs, alcohol-related crashes, and other alcohol-related crime and violence along the Tijuana/San Diego border region. The intervention and law enforcement includes teenage volunteers and community activists from both sides of the border and involves enforcement of underage drinking laws, DUI and ID checks of young people crossing the border.
WHY?
To stem the tide of intoxicated border crossers returning from Mexico.
...
Aggressive marketing practices lure thousands of high school, college, and university students from across the region to drink in Mexico during their spring break. This means more partiers heading south of the border, which translates into an increase in the number of alcohol-related problems at the border, in Tijuana, and in Rosarito. The goal of Operation Safe Crossing is to provide the necessary resources to enforce current laws, which will reduce the number of alcohol-related incidents caused by excessive drinking.
