el nuevo decreto eliminando toda
promoción y especiales que inciten
al consumo inmoderado de bebidas
embriagantes, tales como las
“barras libres” y “ladies
night”. Estas ofertas tentadoras,
enfocadas en “amarrar” sobre
todo a adolescentes con presupuestos
limitados, han logrado darles la
facilidad de emborracharse a bajo
costo pero con consecuencias

La iniciativa de reformar la Ley de Alcoholes para
evitar que el Palacio Municipal se transforme en una
cantina, se aprobó hoy en las comisiones de alcohol
y Gobernación, anunció el edil priista, Carlos
Castillo Barboza. El regidor explicó que por
unanimidad los munícipes votaron en favor de la
propuesta que prohíbe vender cualquier tipo de
bebida con graduación alcohólica en el interior y
exterior de la sede de Gobierno Municipal.

Law Reformed " --
An initiative destined to reform the existing
alcohol law in order to prevent City Hall from
becoming a “bar” was approved today by the
Alcohol and Interior Commission, as announced by
Tijuana Councilor Carlos Castillo Barboza. According
to Barboza, municipal representatives voted
unanimously in favor of the proposal that prohibits
the sale of all alcoholic beverages in the interior
and exterior of the Government Building. |

Cinco comisiones del Cabildo del Ayuntamiento de
Tijuana han acordado solicitar que se apruebe un
aumento del 20% en la tarifa por las horas extras de
venta de alcohol que pagan los giros negros de la
ciudad. Las comisiones de Alcoholes, Juventud,
Turismo, Gobernación y Legislación y Hacienda son
las que han llegado a este acuerdo, el cual buscarán
aprobar en la próxima sesión del organismo.

on requesting that a 20% increase in the tariff paid
by alcohol outlets in order to be able to stay open
extra hours. The

they will try to pass during their next session. |

an average of one hundred car accidents occur each
month, intoxicated youth are involved in the
majority of cases and incidents involving women is
on the rise. An average of one hundred alcohol
related car accidents are registered each month, the

de semana impidió a más de 100 adolescentes
residentes de esta zona cruzar la frontera a México

than 125 the number of people in this

ban could hit Mexico in the wallet"

TIJUANA
– A three-day weekend that kicks off with the
Fourth of July would normally be a boon to
restaurants and hotels south of the border that
cater to U.S. tourists. But a 48-hour ban on alcohol
sales in Mexico – running from midnight tomorrow
to midnight Sunday – is expected to spoil the
festivities. The nationwide ban is mandated by law
during elections, and on Sunday Mexicans will elect
a new federal congress. In Tijuana, 50 city
inspectors will make sure clubs, stores and
restaurants don't violate the ban. Business owners
expect that tourists who are predisposed to partying
the night away at a nightclub or who can't imagine
washing down their fish tacos without a few beers
will opt to stay away. |

heading to Mexico should remember that alcohol won't
be sold at restaurants, stores and bars this weekend
from midnight Friday through midnight Sunday. That's
because the country's dry law prohibits the sale of
alcohol before elections, and the national midterm
election is scheduled for Sunday. People heading to
the United States from Mexico should expect longer
waits at the border throughout the weekend due to
the large number of travelers on the road and
heightened border security, said Lauren Mack,
spokeswoman for the U.S. Bureau of Customs and
Border Protection. |
