WHAT: The Tijuana city licensing agency closed Club FX for three to seven days due to the presence of numerous minors on Thursday night.  Action by law enforcement, public health, government and community organizations in Tijuana and San Diego will continue this weekend. Results from the first half of spring break show some reduction in problems related to U.S. youth and heavy drinking in Tijuana. However, leaders caution that long term solutions are needed to change underlying problems and bring about lasting results. The effort is spearheaded and coordinated by the Institute for Health Advocacy (IHA). The overall project engages broad-based community involvement to implement an integrated public health approach to reduce alcohol-related crimes and violence in these border cities. Other components of the project include: fostering community participation, educating students and parents about the issue, and high visibility support for police enforcement of existing laws.

WHEN: Activities will resume on Friday 4/10 (9p.m.) and continue on Saturday night 4/11/98. (call appropriate contact to check on activities for any given night).

U.S. Law Enforcement: San Diego PD, U.S. Customs, and ABC will conduct enforcement.

Southbound–ID checks of youthful appearing would-be crossers to block those under 18 from crossing without a notarized letter from parent.

Northbound–DUI operations and detain severely intoxicated pedestrians
